Strategic Plan

According to the New Mexico Department of Health, Colfax County is now ranked #16 (down from #1 ranking) in the State for child abuse and neglect cases. In 2000, 40.8% of all child abuse cases investigations were substantiated, much higher then the state average of 29.9%. In 2002 that percentage has dropped to 21.7% for Colfax County, below the state average of 28.9%. (According to the Department of Health (DOH) 2003 Colfax County Health Profile)

Assets in the Community: Child Abuse Committee of the Colfax County Health Council, CCMCHP, Law Enforcement Partners, Child Protective Services, Safe Interview Room located in Raton.

Needs/Gaps: Not all partners are aware of the Safe Interview Room and how to access its use. There are a limited number of licensed or registered day care options for children. There are few options for positive parenting trainings.

Aim: Improve the quality of life for families in Colfax County.

 

Outcome: Two trainings a year will be given regarding child abuse and neglect, reporting laws and early warning signs.
